Two Indians win Prestigious Ramson Magsaysay Awards 2015
Every year Philippines Government give Ramon Magsaysay award to the people who had given outstanding contributions in different areas. For the year 2015 two Indians have been chosen for Ramon Magsaysay Award - bureaucrat Whistle-blower Sanjiv Chaturvedi and Anshu Gupta who had made excellent contributions for the government of India. It is really a proud moment for our country where two Indians won the most prestigious Ramon Magsaysay awards 2015.
Mr. Sanjiv Chaturvedi is a Whistleblower who blew the whistle on alleged scam at the premier All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Mr Chaturvedi was removed in August last year as vigilance chief of AIIMS hospital, run by the central government, allegedly after he exposed corruption involving officials and politicians. He is currently the deputy secretary at AIIMS. After he was removed from AIIMS, Delhi's Aam Aadmi Party government said it would appoint him as its vigilance officer and alleged that he had been victimized.
The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation citation said Mr Chaturvedi is being recognized for "his exemplary integrity, courage and tenacity in uncompromisingly exposing and painstakingly investigating corruption in public office, and his resolute crafting of program and system improvements to ensure that government honorably serves the people of India."
Anshu Gupta, who heads the NGO Goonj has been chosen for the prestigious award for "his creative vision in transforming the culture of giving in India, his enterprising leadership in treating cloth as a sustainable development resource for the poor, and in reminding the world that true giving always respects and preserves human dignity."
The Ramon Magsaysay award is given for outstanding contributions in government service, public service, community leadership, journalism, literature and creative communication arts, peace and international understanding and emergent leadership.
