Filmfare Awards South is an event during which the Directorate of Film Festivals presents its annual Filmfare Awards to honor the both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the South Indian best films. Filmfare Awards is presented by The Times Group. The awards were introduced in 1954, around the films released in 1953. In the same year as the original Filmfare Awards and National Film Awards, initially recognizing the Tamil and Telugu film industries. The inclusion of Malayalam cinema in the awards came in 1967 while Kannada cinema was recognized in 1970. Each industry is given is own set of creative awards in annual ceremonies that have predominantly been held in Chennai and Hyderabad.
