Jayalalitha Elected As AIADMK Legislature Party Leader, Stage Set for Swearing in

AIADMK party MLA’s re-elected unanimously the party chief J. Jayalalitha as their legislature party leader today morning. She is likely to be sworn in as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on Saturday more than eight months after she was forced to resign following her conviction in a disproportionate assets case. It was a short meeting mainly to elect Jayalalitha as the AIADMK’s legislature party leader.

Paneerselvam Resigns To Make Amma Jayalalitha as CM


Party Treasurer and Chief Minister O. Paneerselvam forwarded the motion to elect her as legislature party leader. And he praised the leader describing her as the Permanent General Secretary of the AIADMK party. Later, Paneerselvam accompanied by some of his senior cabinet colleagues visited the Poes Garden residence of Jayalalitha.

The chief minister also submitted his resignation to Governor K Rosaiah. Jayalalithaa’s return to the top post comes after she was acquitted by the Karnataka High Court in a 19-year disproportionate assets case. The Schedule would be as following.

Today at 1.40 pm, Jayalalithaa will leave Poes Garden residence to drive to Raj Bhavan to meet K Rosaiah, the governor of Tamil Nadu. At 1.50 pm, the resolution electing her as the Chief Minister would be handed over to the governor .At 2.00 pm, Jayalalitha will pay floral tributes at the party’s founder MGR, DMK founder CN Annadurai and DK founder EV Ramaswamy.

Later on May 23, after 10.30 am (9.30 am to 10.30 am considered inauspicious), She reaches the centenary hall of the University of Madras, one of her favorite venues in Chennai, where she would be sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the fifth time. Most likely, R Thandavan, Vice Chancellor of the university, who is also a card holding member of her party and one who acted in AIADMK’s propaganda movies during MGR’s period, will be receiving her at the university campus.

After the swearing-in ceremony, she would head to the state secretariat. She would sign three crucial files on Saturday, including one on transgenders and another on women. A press meeting is also being planned on the same day evening, for which the time and venue is not yet finalized.
